“Fiets” is Dutch for “bike.” “Bakfiets” is a cargo bike, generally with a carrying bin on the front like a wheelbarrow. “Fietscultuur” is, well, what it looks like. A great delight in Amsterdam is watching the endless variety of people and bikes. Here are a few images.
- Talking and riding is everywhere
- Look closely at the spring-mounted dog leash connection
- Mom and kids–with a front basket for baby
- A “bike boat” for the canals
- Dress up, dress down
- Ride at any age–this guy’s a youngster.
- How to haul landscape supplies
- Pink bag, baseball hat–NOT an Amsterdammer!
- Curbside mechanics available
- Wait–not a bicycle!
- Hot rod
- Classic bakfiets
- Beer wagon/tour bus–everyone pedals!
- Amsterdam even has bikes that don’t go anywhere….
- OK, not a bike but looks like you should pedal it
