The gangway plank crosses the canal.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And thus was born the Dutch auction.\u00a0 In a Dutch auction, a product is offered at a high price; then the price is incrementally lowered until a Dutch person, finding it a suitable bargain far below the initial offering price, announces his\/her willingness to pay.\u00a0 The result is the same as a conventional auction without the psychic damage of \u201cpaying more than Hans\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This is the format used for decades at the Langedijk Vegetable Auction House. \u00a0We participated in a re-enacted auction for visitors in which we bought apples (a deal), kiwi fruit (trader of the day award) and 4 bushels of onions (waayyy overpaid). \u00a0The onions were proof that a Dutch auction doesn&#8217;t guarantee the bidder a bargain!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1014\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sayjack.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_3338.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1014\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1014\" src=\"http:\/\/sayjack.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/IMG_3338.jpg\" alt=\"The vegetables float onto the auction house &quot;floor&quot; on a boat.
